Moodle is an Open Source VLE or ‘Virtual Learning Environment’. Moodle has been designed specifically using sound pedagogical principles to help educators provide secure online learning communities where all users are able to access the resources of the school 24 hours a day, seven days a week.


Moodle enables teachers to take the best aspects of their classroom practice and use the Moodle system as a VLE to transfer that into a home teaching and learning environment. It not only comes with an impressive array of features but is also highly configurable and extensible.

Our experience has shown this arrangement has a number of significant advantages, specifically lower subscription costs; faster page load time; reduced load on your school’s Internet connection; if the internet connection fails, Moodle is still accesible and Moodle can be integrated with internal services e.g. Active Directory for single sign on; the whole system is backed up & remotely managed by experts.

SIMS/Moodle Integration - Full integration between Moodle VLE & Capita SIMS.net

 

Realtime reporting for parents.


Between 80-90% of UK schools currently use SIMS, and until now transferring information from SIMS into Moodle was a manual process. This is no longer the case as our integration software can automate the procedure.


This much awaited integration between SIMS and Moodle is now possible for Moodle and SIMS users as our software provides live access into SIMS, enabling the transfer of SIMS data into Moodle.

As part of the requirement for real-time reporting to parents, secondary schools (by 2010) and primary schools (by 2012) have to integrate their Management Information System (MIS) with their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).  Moodle and SIMS integration will allow schools to meet the government’s 2010 real-time reporting targets. The integration is achieved through official interfaces and not via the database.

 

SIMS and Moodle integration enables:

  • Parents to have their own automatically created account which allows them to see attendance data on their children.
  • Automated user account generation & synchronisation.
  • SIMS data will populate user accounts in Moodle and will automatically update when a change is made in SIMS.
  • Automatic creation & maintenance of Moodle courses via linking with SIMS groups.
